NANOWRIMO 2017 - GIVING UP? (DAY 9 - 12)

Hey everyone!

Daily blog posts are not for me when it comes to updates about my life, especially when it comes to writing. I want to give up. I truly do. I'm still only at 7,000+ words, and it's so far from what it's suppose to be that I can't see myself ever getting to 50,000 words by the end of November. I'm not sure how I did it the first time.

I'm not giving up though. Sure, I may not have written the amount of words I should have by now. I may not have the best story idea or plot. I may not even be the writer that I think I am. But I have figured out what's working for me and what's not. I've gotten a large kick in the rear about my habits and changing myself for the better. I'm finally implementing the routines and strategies that can (and hopefully will!) help me evolve into a better person. (I totally didn't sound like I was a Pokemon or Digimon in that last sentence!)

The best lesson NaNoWriMo can teach anyone, is that writing is possible if you truly want to write. NaNoWriMo teaches me that I truly have to want something and be willing to change to get it. It's unfortunate that some events are out of my control, but I have to remember that I can still change and become better in spite of it. So I'm not giving up NaNoWriMo. My word count goal may be slightly lower than everyone else's, but that's okay. As long as I've gotten writing down into a daily routine, anything is possible.

What are your thoughts on NaNoWriMo?

  1. My thoughts? It's definitely nothing I would do, not to supposedly test my love of writing. Telling me I have to write a certain number of words a day to legitimize my status as a writer is not the way to stimulate my creative juices. When I'm truly stoked to do something, maintaining the drive to get it done isn't really an issue. Although sometimes pressure can be useful in getting something started, self-motivation is my preferred method.
